Seafood Maori
The Customary Fishing (Level 3) Certificate focuses on the "doing" of customary fishing, from the making and repairing of traditional nets to traditional utilisation of fish and customary methods of conservation. It recognises the knowledge and practices of customary fishers that enhance the sustainable management of fishing.
The Customary Fishing (Level 4) Certificate recognises the range of technical skills and knowledge of those working in customary fishing management. These skills include compliance, customary fishing management, and legislation relating to customary fishing practices.
The following national certificates (qualifications) are currently available in Maori:
- National Certificate in Seafood Mâori (Customary Fishing) (Level 3)
- National Certificate in Seafood Mâori (Tangata Kaitiaki/Tiaki) (Level 4)
- National Certificate in Seafood Mâori (Customary Fishing Management) (Level 4)
The Iwi Asset Management qualification has been developed to assist those persons responsible for managing the $350 million worth of fisheries assets transferred by Te Ohu Kaimoana Trustee Limited. The training is specific to the New Zealand Seafood Industry and comprises of regulatory compliance, administration, governance and management, the Quota Management System and ACE Trading.
