Seafood wholesale and retail is all about knowing your seafood!  New Zealand seafood is a nutritious meal choice, it's good value for money, and comes from a sustainable resource.

Having a qualification in seafood retailing is the first step to understanding how to handle and sell all types of seafood and to advise consumers on which seafood to choose and how to store it properly. This qualification will also enhance your customer service skills, as you will be able to promote different species of fish and persuade customers to try something different for their seafood meals.

The seafood retailing qualifications, which are nationally recognised, are based on unit standards which are the building blocks of each qualification. Each unit standard is specifically designed to recognise what you need to know and be able to do to support your role within the industry.   The following national certificates (qualifications) are currently available in wholesale and retail:
