Training subsidies

Seafood ITO pays a direct subsidy to businesses for all unit standards-based training, including seafood unit standards and others that may not be specifically seafood oriented, such as management, occupational safety and health, first aid, forklift use and computing.

For industry training using a training provider, Seafood ITO can provide a level of subsidy.  This amount will depend upon the training level and the company contribution to funding.  Generally this means that Seafood ITO will provide 75% of training provider costs up to $35 per credit for Level 1-3 training. Any amount over $35 per credit will need to be met by the company.   For Level 4 and above, Seafood ITO will provide 75% of training provider costs, up to $35 per credit and then will pay an equal share of any balance over and above $35.

Level Fees up to $35 credit Balance of Fees over $35 credit
Level 1-3 Training
   Seafood ITO 75% 0%
   Company 25% 100%
Level 4 and above
   Seafood ITO 75% 50%
   Company 25% 50%

To find out what level of funding your business may qualify and details around funding arrangements, please contact Seafood ITO.

Notes about funding:
  • Most industry training costs less than $35 per credit, so you will usually only pay 25% of the training provider's fees.
  • Where there are extra costs involved in the training, for example where a company is geographically isolated and there are substantial travel costs, Seafood ITO can provide further subsidy assistance.
  • Not all training fits into this funding model. For specialised or more expensive training please contact your Sector manager to discuss funding and subsidy arrangements.

In-house training

If training is being done in-house, then Seafood ITO contracts with your company and provides a direct cash subsidy for this training. Usually this will be $10 per credit.

Seafood ITO can also support your in-house training by:

• Helping to train your trainers and assessors
• Working with you to identify training needs and set up training plans
• Supplying bulk copies of learning resources
• Helping you develop your in-house training programmes and resources
• Advising and supporting your workplace trainers and assessors.
