Vessel Operations Sector

When people think about the seafood industry they imagine fishing boats. Fishing boats - or vessels - are the mainstay of the Vessel Operations sector of the industry.  The sector focuses on harvesting wild fish or shellfish.

Vessels range in size from small under 40-foot owner-operator boats that ply the inshore waters or pot for lobster, to huge freezer vessels that carry 40 crew as far as the Antarctic Ocean or North Atlantic Sea.

Whatever the size of the vessel, Seafood ITO assists in developing training that supports all areas of skill-building required by the people who live and work on the open sea.
